Teachers should get a raise. I would like to say that the teachers of Patterson Joint Unified School District (PJUSD) are unhappy with the salary that they are getting. They have started a peaceful protest every Thursday morning and they protest every few Fridays downtown Patterson at the circle. This is an act of civil disobedience, “Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining” (Civil Disobedience Henry David Thoreau). This quote shows civil disobedience is similar to what the teachers are doing by make people know they are unhappy with their salary. The teachers are taking a step forward by protesting to get respect and a fair raise on their salaries. Going against the district is similar to how Thoreau went against the government. To accomplish something, the teachers are making their struggle stand out, showing the community how important they are to the success of the students.

As a student, I see that they do so much for us. We should support the teachers in their peaceful protest to get higher salaries by joining them every Thursday morning and Fridays. As students we can also help by calling the district to tell them to increase their salaries because the teachers help us accomplish our goals inside the classroom and in our lives. Teachers are protesting for what should be fair like the teachers from Los Angeles, but they had to go on strike. According to EdSource, “Thousands of Los Angeles Unified teachers...demanding a six percent pay increase, smaller classes, fewer tests for students and more nurses…” (EdSource December 21, 2018). We don’t want our teachers to go on strike, we want teachers to stay in the classroom so we should listen and increase their salary.
