Junior Favour Nnaji has qualified for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet for the second year in a row.

Nnaji did so with a second-place finish in the 100-meter race. Nnaji’s 11.01 time was .4 seconds behind El Capitan sophomore Divine Peter’s 10.87 first place time. The top six participants in each event were permitted to advance to Masters. Junior Jaxen North of Kimball (11.25), sophomore Zeke Saffar of Oakdale (11.26), senior Yahya Algere of Will C. Wood (11.27) and sophomore Anthony Cornelio of Golden Valley (11.29) were the other four races to advance in the event.

Nnaji also snagged a Masters qualifying spot in the 200-meter race. His 22.95 time earned him a fifth-place spot. Peters (22.27), junior Gaige Silas-Clark of Vanden (22.52), senior Brian Matthews of El Capitan (22.59) and junior Tyler Beaver of Rodriguez (22.88) finished ahead of him in the 200-meter finals.

Teammate junior Obadiah Godbolt was scheduled to race in the 100- and 200-meter finals, but did not race, ending his season.

Nnaji was also a member of the boys 4X100 and 4X400 relay team with Godbolt, Francisco Duran and Precious Nnaji, but in an unsettling surprise, neither relay team was able to advance to Masters this season, after the 4X100 relay team was able to do so last year. The 4X100 relay team just missed the cut in seventh place, while the 4X400 relay never got past the preliminary trials.

The girls 4X400 relay team of Angeline Dauz, Natalie Cuevas Arevalo, Trista Cherry and Ada Jack were unable to get past the preliminary race.

Both Dauz and Jack failed to qualify for the finals in the 400-meter race, while Jack’s season in the 800 meters ended in the preliminary race also.

Cuevas Arevalo (5:49.16) finished 18th in the 1600-meter finals.

Jordan Patterson (32-06) failed to advance in the triple jump, finishing in 10th place.

Duran (2:02.63) was unable to qualify for the finals in the 800-meter race, while Jake “JT” Kuderca finished in 18th (18-01) in the long jump and 15th (39-00) in the triple jump, to finish his season at the Division III Finals.

Pole vaulters Kahyla Brambila and Mokbel Obeid were unable to post a height and did not advance.

The Masters Meet is scheduled for May 17-18 at Davis Sr. High School. The boys 100meter preliminary race is scheduled for 5:47 p.m. on Friday, May 17. The boys 200-meter preliminary race will occur at 7:34 p.m. the same evening.

The boys 100-meter finals race will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 6:14 p.m., while the 200-meter finals will begin at 7:06 p.m.
