After an opening-season loss, the San Lorenzo Valley boy’s basketball team won two straight games heading into the Dad’s Club Tournament this weekend.
SLV fell in the opening game, Tuesday, Dec. 3, 65-44 to Monta Vista High School of Cupertino. Chris Pasternak notched a double-double for the Cougars with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
SLV bounced back with a 47-44 win over visiting Monte Vista Christian on Dec. 7 behind 17 points and 7 rebounds from Davon Northcutt and 15 points and 12 rebounds from Pasternak.
The Cougars rode that success to a 67-19 blowout of visiting Pajaro Valley. Against the Grizzlies, ten players scored led by Ian Johnson’s 14 and Jared Mailey’s 11. Sebastian Vroman-Nell was 3-for-3 from three point range with nine points and six rebounds in the contest.
SLV played Salinas High School in the first round of the annual Dad’s Club Tournament which began after press time, Thursday, Dec. 12 and continued Friday and Saturday at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz.
Scotts Valley girls off to hot start
The Scotts Valley girls basketball team opened the season 3-1 including a strong victory over Saint Francis of Mountain View.
The Falcons defeated Soledad 95-14 to open the season on Dec. 3 led by 16 points from Angela Silver and 13 from Nadene Hart.
Against Saint Francis on Dec. 4, Charlie Boyle led the team with 17 points and 8 rebounds while Hart added 16 and Sadie Allen 12.
The Falcons continued their hot play with a 74-31 victory over Seaside on Dec. 10. Hart had 16 points, seven rebounds and seven steals in the contest, followed by Angela Silver with 13 points and Boyle with 12. Mandy Silver had 10 points and eight steals.
Scotts Valley suffered its first loss against the 10th ranked team in NorCal, a 72-59 loss to Pinewood High School in the Pinewood Holliday Tournament
The Falcons were led by Hart’s 13, Angela Silver’s 12 and Sadie Allen’s 12.
