A Thursday morning fire damaged a steel building and burned motorcycles, a boat and tires at Myers Towing on West 11th Street.
Battalion Chief Chris Martin said Tracy Fire Department heard about the fire at 6:54 a.m.
An owner of Myers Towing, 7618 W. 11th St., reportedly smelled and heard the fire inside the building and was able to escape and call 911.
Martin said firefighters reported finding thick black smoke and flames coming out the windows and near the roofline.
“There was a boat on fire along with a number of tires,” he said. “That’s why we had a big column of smoke going across 11th Street.”
Crews from three fire engines, a ladder truck and a water truck controlled the fire inside the building in eight minutes and kept it from spreading.
Martin said the building was divided into three sections, one of which was an office. A motor home in another of the three sections was undamaged. Martin said the majority of damage was in the north part of the building that faces 11th Street.
Preliminary estimates are $37,000 in property loss and $20,000 in contents.
No one was injured by the blaze, and the cause is under investigation.
