A Tracy woman in her 40s is in critical condition after being struck by a minivan while crossing Grant Line Road on Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Octavio Lopez said the accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. when the woman began to cross Grant Line Road west of Tracy Boulevard near the SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service shop, 711 W. Grant Line Road.

The woman, whom police did not identify, was reportedly crossing from the north side of the road to the south when she was struck by a Kia Sedona driven by a man heading west in the left lane.

The posted speed limit on that section of Grant Line Road is 40 mph. The nearest crosswalks are at Tracy Boulevard and O’Hara Drive.

The woman suffered major injuries, and an ambulance took her to an area hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Lopez said the driver remained at the crash scene and has cooperated with investigators.

Police do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs played any role in the crash, but Lopez did say visibility might have been an issue because of the position of the sun sinking in the west.

The police department’s traffic unit was called to the scene to investigate the crash because of the severity of the injuries to the woman. Investigators closed a section of Grant Line Road between Tracy Boulevard and O’Hara drive for about four hours.
