Services will be Wednesday for Joseph Chukwuemeka Duru, a Tracy resident for 20 years, who died Dec. 21.

A native of Kano in northern Nigeria, Mr. Duru fought in the Nigerian-Biafran civil war in the late 1960s and was discharged after a bullet wound to the leg.

He moved to San Mateo in 1972 to attend Heald College and graduated from San Jose State University with a civil engineering degree in 1979. Mr. Duru later earned a master’s of business administration.

He worked 25 years for Raychem, now Tyco Electronics, and retired in 2013.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Anyaoha Duru, of Sacramento; two daughters, Chinyere Duru Flewellen-El, and her husband, Funtayus Flewellen-El, domicile in Tracy, and Ijeoma Duru, of Lathrop; a son, Obinna Duru, and his wife, Joanna, of Lathrop; eight siblings; and four grandchildren.

His parents, Cyprian Anyaoha Duru and Cecilia Nwagbo Duru, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave.
