Wicklund School sixth grader Rohin Prashanth made it to the 11th and final round of the California State Elementary Spelling Bee on May 11, finishing as one of seven finalists in a field of 55 spellers.

The winner was Vayun Krishna, a 12-year-old sixth grader from Santa Clara County, and his winning word was “rapport.”

The other speller representing San Joaquin County, fifth grader Ishaan Ajay from Stockton, was eliminated in the second round.

Another local student, Williams Middle School eighth grader Roocha Thatte, represented the county at the California State Junior High Spelling Bee on May 4.

She finished 12th out of 47 competitors. Ripon eighth grader April Yan, the other San Joaquin County representative, tied for 19th place.
