A close contest at Tracy High finished in favor of visiting Edison High on Tuesday as the Bulldogs fell 55-52.

Tracy (0-2) held the lead through the first half and was up 30-23 at the end of the second quarter, but Edison (1-0) kept battling back through the second half, tying the score 35-35 in the third quarter. The teams traded the lead through the fourth quarter.

Tracy tied it up 52-52 on a pair of free throws by sophomore Julissa Vargas, but Edison drew a foul with 18 seconds left, scored on a free throw and then rebounded and scored to make it a 55-52 game.

“We executed well but missed some opportunities, like missed layups and small things like that,” junior forward Natalie Johnson said. “When we get those things down, we’ll be a good team.”

Johnson led the Bulldogs with 21 points, and junior Jazmyn Gonzalez scored 10 points.

Tracy’s sophomores beat Edison 44-30. Izzie Valdez was Tracy’s leading scorer with 11 points.

Millennium 57, Lodi Academy 19

The Millennium High Falcons picked up the pace on offense and defense in the second quarter on Tuesday to take a 27-5 halftime lead over Lodi Academy at West High.

Millennium rallied again in the fourth quarter for the decisive win.

The leading scorer for the Falcons was sophomore Amaya Salas with 23 points. Junior Ashley Hart scored 15.

Sophomores: Kimball 50, Chavez 18

The Kimball High Jaguars dominated on both sides of the court at Chavez High on Monday for a 50-18 win. Katie Jones led the Kimball team with 11 points, Alexxis Holmes scored nine points and had six rebounds, and Sabrina Zerbey scored eight points and had six steals.

San Ramon Valley Tournament

The West High Wolf Pack went 0-2 in the San Ramon Valley Tournament on Friday and Dec. 4 at San Ramon Valley High.

West finished with a 50-14 loss to Heritage High on Friday after trailing 30-6 at the half. Junior Brittney Reyes led the Wolf Pack with six points, and senior Kimberly Angeles had eight rebounds.

West fell behind early in a 54-23 loss to San Ramon Valley in the first game on Dec. 4. West finally got some spark in the fourth quarter but was too far behind to pose a threat. Reyes scored nine points for West with three 3-point shots, and senior Alicia Nunez also scored nine points, including two 3-pointers.

Blue/Gold Tournament

The Kimball sophomore girls picked up the pace in the second half of their final game at the Blue/Gold Tournament at West High and finished with a 44-28 win over Linden to claim third place in the tournament.

Katie Jones had her best game of the season on Saturday, scoring 22 points for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars were denied their shot at the championship game when they gave up a first-quarter lead and fell to Beyer 55-47 on Friday. Alexxis Holmes led the Kimball offense with 20 points.

Kimball opened with a 53-15 win over Orestimba. After a close first half, the Jaguars shut down Orestimba for the rest of the game. Their leading scorers were Mary Tesfeldat and Sabrina Zerbey with nine points each.

Tracy High’s girls went 1-2 for the tournament, including a 52-33 loss to Beyer High on Thursday, with Ella Turner the Bulldogs’ top scorer with nine points. Tracy beat Orestimba 45-9 in the second game on Friday, led by Izzie Valdez’s 14 points, and lost to Oakdale 42-35 on Saturday, when Turner was again the top scorer with eight points.

West High did not report results for its team.

Green and Gold Tournament

Kimball’s freshman girls took second place in the Tracy High Green and Gold tournament. The Jaguars opened with a 45-44 win over Liberty of Brentwood on Thursday and beat Sierra of Manteca on Friday. Heritage High of Brentwood beat the Jaguars in the championship game, 38-21. Kimball’s all-tournament selections were Lyric Moran and Julia Gosienfias.

Tracy High’s freshman girls placed third in the Green and Gold Tournament. The Bulldogs won their first game Dec. 4 against Tokay 56-5. They lost on Friday, 48-40, to Sierra High and then won Saturday’s third-place game against Sierra, 48-40. Shaelyn Hawkins was Tracy’s all-tournament selection.
