Local wrestlers brought home two silver medals from the 51st annual Peninsula Invitational tournament.
Tracy senior Brock McCarty and West senior Ricky Lopez both went 3-1 on Friday and Saturday at Half Moon Bay High School.
McCarty won three matches in a row in the 220-pound bracket — one on an 8-2 decision, another on a second-period pin and his semifinal match on a third-period pin. He was pinned in the first period of the final match by Matthew Martinez of Everett Alvarez High from Salinas.
Lopez won three matches in a row in the 106-pound class, all on first-period pins, before losing the championship match to Zak Thompson of Palma High on a second-period pin.
Also competing was Tracy sophomore Eli Blackwell (126), who went 2-2 and placed fourth. Senior Sammo Blackwell (152) and sophomore Octavio Torres (145) both took eighth place in their brackets, and sophomore Jonathan Uhl (126) and junior Angel Romo (285) both went 1-2 for the tournament.
West at Lady Royals
West High sent three wrestlers to the ninth annual Lady Royals Tournament at Overfelt High School in San Jose on Saturday.
Junior Alyssa Sanchez went 2-2 in the 116-pound bracket. She lost her first match on a first-period pin and then won two in a row, both on second-period pins, to make the Consolation A bracket. She faced Jenna Hartman of San Benito High and lost by pin in the first period.
Junior Samantha Beidler (137) went 1-2 for the tournament, and senior Mariam Fedai (131) went 0-2.
Mountain House at Ceres Invitational
The Mountain House wrestling team traveled to Ceres High on Saturday for its first tournament of the season, the Ceres Invitational.
Team captain Jacob Bowers went 3-2, including two pins, and finished in sixth place in his bracket. Jalen Hill also went 3-2 and took fourth place in his class, winning two matches by pin and finishing with a loss in triple overtime in the third-place match.
Also wrestling were Tommy Briones and Kyle Davis, who each won a match by pin.
