The Patterson Garden Club won Best of Show honors at the Stanislaus County Fair last week for its small garden in the floral design competition.

“Small gardens don’t usually win Best of Show, but this display was so packed with beauty and whimsy it deserved to be recognized,” said Diane Adams, vice president of the local Garden Club.

The display consisted of colorful tires and stepping stones filled with flowers and vegetables. A grandpa with a corncob pipe slumbered in his rocker on a porch with an ancient bug sprayer nearby.
