Civilian emergency responders

Fire Capt. Mike Ambrosino of the Patterson Fire Department watches as Maricela Vela, city clerk, swears in the most recent graduates of the Patterson and West Stanislaus area Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course during the Dec. 1 City Council meeting in City Hall.

Nineteen new members of the Patterson and West Stanislaus area Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) were sworn in during the Dec. 1 City Council meeting in City Hall.

Fire Capt. Mike Ambrosino and Fire Prevention Specialist Carrie Silveira run the program, which has graduated three classes since 2014, providing citizens with disaster preparedness and response training as well as basic emergency skills.

“These are people who have a desire to help in some way, shape or form,” Ambrosino said. The local program has produced a total of 37 CERT members.
