MOMS Club of Patterson will be conducting a membership drive for any interested moms at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Ambercot Park on Creekside Drive.
MOMS, short for Mothers Offering Moms Support, invite any stay-at-home mom to come to the event to learn more about the club, meet the members and have a fun morning among peers at the park.
The MOMS Club of Patterson is beginning the new season with President Rochelle Pepmeier and board members Cynthia Rose, administrative vice president; Alexis Juravic, member services vice president; Angela Bodas, treasurer; and Malique Mullens, secretary.
MOMS is a support group designed for at-home mothers who are interested in the world around them and want a variety of activities for themselves and their children.
The MOMS Club meets during the day, when at-home mothers most need support.
Club members can bring their children with them for the meetings and activities.
The local chapter is made up of moms who are new to town as well as moms who have lived here for many years.
MOMS clubs began in 1983, according to the organization’s website, when Mary James, a California mother, decided she was tired of being alone at home.
When James discovered there were no other organizations that met during the day and allowed her to come with her baby and preschooler, she decided to start a brand new organization just for at-home mothers, and the MOMS Club was born.
The local chapter began in 2002, when Grace McCord came to Patterson from Modesto after moving to the area from her native Montana. She wanted to meet other mothers with small children.
