Patterson High School senior Shreya Parjan once again took home top honors in the Lions Club Student Speaker Contest, taking first place in the District Contest Saturday at Lions District (MD4-A1) convention in Redding. She now moves on to the Area Student Speaker Contest, to be held in Linden at the Linden Lions Club Hall on May 13th at 2:00 p.m. The public is invited.

The Patterson High School senior won the Patterson Lions Club student speaker contest a few months ago, the Zone Level contest a few weeks later and then at the end of March won the Region Level contest.

Parjan has competed in the contests addressing the theme of the 80th annual District-4 speaking contest, “Is the Right to Privacy a Threat to Our National Security?”

Lions student speakers are judged on effectiveness as a whole, delivery and text. Students can speak for no longer than 10 minutes.

Speakers who win at club level receive $100, winner at the Zone Level wins $150 and Regional Level $250. At the District-4 level, winners each receive $4,500, while the Area contest winners will receive a $6,500 Scholarship and the MD4 State wide Contest winner will receive a $10,000 Scholarship (when they compete in Redding).

A total of a possible $21,500 in cash and scholarships is available to the final winner.

Area Student Speaker Contest to be held in Linden at the Linden Lions Club Hall on Saturday May 13th at 2:00 p.m. The public is invited.
