Paterson High students participated in the Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon held Saturday, Feb. 4, at Central Catholic High School in Modesto.

The event was open to county high school students who answer questions in teams. This year’s topic was “World War II.”

Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded in the contest, where students competed across three levels based on GPA: varsity 0.00 to 2.99; scholastic 3.00 to 3.74; and honors 3.75 to 4.0.

Patterson winners were Hamera Shabbir, who took third place in social sciences in the honors category and was a high point team member, and Alex Alvarez, who won third place in the alternates category for science. 

County high school students participated in 10 areas covering math, language arts and literature, economics, essay, fine arts, speech, music, interview, science and social sciences.

The event culminated with the Super Quiz held on Saturday afternoon.
