Boundaries of the California Little League's District 39 overlap those of Santa Cruz County. There are eight Little Leagues: Santa Cruz, San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, Capitola-Soquel, Live Oak, Aptos, Watsonville-American, and Pajaro Valley.

It’s a testament to our local talent that the San Lorenzo Valley Angels and the Scotts Valley Pirates met at the final game of the District 39 Tournament of Champions Majors division (ages 10 to 12) last Tuesday, at Franich Park in Watsonville.

Both teams were unbeaten during the regular season, and the game stayed pretty close — the Pirates were up 4-2 until the fourth inning when two consecutive home runs opened the scoring floodgates.

After the fifth inning the score reached 12-2 and the game was ended by the mercy rule.

Dillon Danner was Scotts Valley's winning pitcher, Grant Auman had three home-runs.

“I’m thrilled that our players and families can kick off the summer with this TOC championship after nearly five months of hard work and commitment to Little League Baseball” said Pirates head coach Jon Auman. “The Pirates faced outstanding competition throughout the tournament, and I’m proud of the way our players rose to the challenge each game. It truly was a whole-team effort.”
