Local glassblower opens shop

Felton-based glass artist Chris Johnson is hosting an open house to celebrate the opening of his new studio in Santa Cruz.

Members of the community are invited to the studio, 2260 Chanticleer Ave., Ste. 10, in Santa Cruz, from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 21, to view glassblowing demonstrations and talk with Johnson about the art of glassblowing.

Office welcomes realtor

Century 21 Showcase Realtors recently announced that Realtor Jan Rekoutis had joined its Scotts Valley office.

Rekoutis, who previously worked for American Dream Realty, specializes in selling real property in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the rest of the county.

BC hair salon to remain open

Because of support from the community, The Hair Hut, 13266 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek, will remain open after owner Barbara Burns announced plans to close in March.

Burns had planned to move into another salon, but she said she would be able to keep the business open entering its 19th year in the valley.

“I’m very excited,” she said. “I enjoy my job. It’s a blessing to stay.”

Burns said she had not raised prices in five years.

Bank announces fundraising results

Bay Federal Credit Union employees and members raised more than $15,000 for two local organizations last year.

The bank raised $10,113.65 for Second Harvest Food Bank as employees sold baked good, raffle tickets and donation cards to bank members.

The bank also donated $5,025 — the proceeds of its annual employee silent auction — to the Santa Cruz County 4-H Club’s leadership team to support leadership opportunities for youth.
