Santa Cruz County has a new source of help for those seniors or disabled adults who need a little bit of extra help maintaining their independence.

Dave Bullard, a Scotts Valley resident, recently opened the doors of Right at Home in Aptos. The company — part of a nationwide chain —provides trained caregivers to help seniors and disabled adults with household tasks such as grocery shopping, meal preparation, hygiene, and other types of housework.

“We’re primarily providing care for people for where they are currently living,” Bullard said, adding that each caregiver would be matched that a client’s needs.

Bullard said that he and his wife, Kam, have extensive backgrounds in the medical field — her as a registered nurse at Stanford Children’s Hospital, and himself on the business end.

The Bullards saw Right at Home as an opportunity to combine both their talents, he said.

“We hope this is a community asset,” he said. “My work on the business side had always been caring for clients.”
