Felton has a new place to spruce up a wardrobe without breaking the bank.

TrendSetter Boutique was started by Trina White and her friend Samantha Simes as an online jewelry business last year. On November 29 White expanded TrendSetter Boutique and opened the shop as a retail store at 6223 Highway 9 in Felton.

Her goal as a downtown Felton small business is to make people feel at home.

“I usually greet customers when they come through the door,” White said. “We want them to feel like it’s a boutique.”

White and her husband Christopher Herring, the co-owner of the boutique, sell what they call previously loved clothing — used clothing in good condition, and a variety of merchandise like shoes, handbags, and jewelry.

Most of their clothing comes from consignment, estate sales or auction.

“We want it to be in good condition, not ready for recycle,” Trina said.

TrendSetter Boutique mostly sells new and used women’s clothing, but they are in the process of developing men’s, children’s, and young adult’s sections.

“The one thing we’re trying to do is that we always have something new and different, and in order to do that we need to price the clothing so that it will move quickly,” White said.

The philosophy of TrendSetter Boutique is to provide quality merchandise at a reasonable price while providing quality service.

“Every time someone comes into the store, we want customers to see new things,” Herring said.

One way the couple plans to spice up the store and keep things fresh is to display artwork from local artists. They hope to begin with the first exhibit in January.

The boutique also sells t-shirts with designs that are created by Herring.

Why open up a shop?

“Everybody needs clothes,” Herring said. “It’s kind of a universal thing.”

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For information: www.facebook.com/TrendSetterBoutique
