Altamont Corridor Express riders can buy tickets on the go for any of ACE’s weekday trains with a new mobile app that launched Monday.

The ACE Rail mTickets app allows riders to buy one way, round trip and 20-ride tickets and monthly passes on their smartphones and other mobile devices. The free app is available for iOS and Android devices. People can pay with debit cards, credit cards or digital payment services, including Apple Pay and Masterpass.

Tickets can be activated within the app and used immediately. A digital ticket on a mobile device serves as the rider’s ticket on the train.

Riders can also buy and validate paper tickets at any station along the route.

Monthly passes and 20-ride tickets can still be purchased online at to be delivered by mail. Instant ticket sales through the ACE website were discontinued Monday.

The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission, which manages ACE, selected the London-based mobile ticketing vendor Masabi, which has also worked with transit services including Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit, New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Boston’s Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

ACE runs four westbound trains each weekday morning and four eastbound trains each evening between San Jose and Stockton, all of which stop at the Tracy station at 4800 S. Tracy Blvd. Schedules and other information can be found at
