Police are investigating a late-night shooting Wednesday that left a man injured in a Southside neighborhood.

Several people called 911 to report multiple gunshots around 10:15 p.m. When officers arrived on the 300 block of West Street, they found one man who had been shot.

Lt. Tony Matuska would not say whether the man was shot on the street or inside a building on West Street. He said Thursday morning that the man’s wounds were not life threatening and he was in stable condition at an area hospital.

Matuska said no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting and no other information would be given about what he called “still a very active investigation.”

A section of West Street was closed between Third and Fourth streets Wednesday night while officers and crime scene technicians investigated the area. About a dozen evidence markers were set up on the road near an SUV.

According to police dispatch records, the gunman, described as wearing a mask, ran west through the Housing Authority of San Joaquin property.
