A 19-year-old Tracy woman lost her life after her car crashed off West Schulte Road into a field on New Year’s Day.

Tracy Police Lt. Kami Ysit said someone called 911 at 10:49 a.m. Sunday to report the crash on a two-lane section of West Schulte Road east of Hansen Road.

Ysit said the woman was driving a Ford Explorer with no one else in the car. According to investigators, she was found lying in the field and may have been thrown from the car when it rolled over.

Paramedics took her to an area hospital, where she died.

A section of West Schulte Road was closed for nearly four hours while the police department traffic unit investigated the crash scene.

Ysit said that speed might have been a factor, based on an analysis of skid marks left at the scene, but the full report won’t be completed until later this week.

The police and coroner’s office have not released the woman’s name.
