A parade down Central Avenue and Holly Drive kicked off the 16th of September Mexican independence day celebration on Saturday, highlighted by lowriders, lariat-twirling cowboys and dancing horses.

An all-day fiesta at Lincoln Park featured music and dance, food, and informational booths, sponsored by the South Side Community Organization.

The annual celebration commemorates the start of the revolutionary war in Mexico in 1810. A traditional reading of “El Grito,” the call to action, was recited in the afternoon.
