Tracy High junior Eli Blackwell led the Bulldog wrestling team to a sixth-place finish at the Rod Gaines Invitational, held Saturday at Tokay High in Lodi.

Tracy collected 101 team points, with Oakmont (208) the tournament champion.

Blackwell took second place in the 138-pound class, defeating Tracy sophomore Noah Deneau on a 16-0 technical fall and Ambrose Lawrence of Monterey Trail High on an 18-4 major decision.

He then battled into overtime rounds with Alex Jimenez of Escalon High before Jimenez won it in the tiebreaker round.

Tracy’s medalists also included sophomore Alex Gougousis (126), who finished in third place. He went 3-1 for the day, securing a win by pin over Joshua Garza of Bear Creek High in the third-place match after 2 minutes, 57 seconds.

Freshman Anthony Nunes went 4-2 for the tournament and placed fourth. He won four matches on first-period pins, lost a match on a 16-0 technical fall, and lost by forfeit in the third-place match.

Fifth-place wrestlers included freshman Jason Matta (195), who went 2-1 with two wins by pin and a loss by pin; and junior Jonathan Uhl (132), who went 4-1, with two wins by decision, a win on a major decision, a win by pin and a loss by decision.
